GAISB Leads Responsible AI in Public Administration Session at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand

Speaking to senior government officials at AIT, GAISB set out the standards, governance and institutional readiness governments need before AI can scale across public services.

The Global AI Standards Body (GAISB™) led a session on Responsible AI in Public Administration at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Pathum Thani, Thailand. The session formed part of the International Training Program on AI-Enabled Public Sector Transformation: Digital Leadership, Data-Driven Government and Responsible AI Applications, organized by AIT Extension and held from October 26 to 30, 2026.

The program brought a delegation of senior government officials from Bangladesh to Thailand. Participants included a Director from the Prime Minister's Office and Deputy Secretaries from the Finance Division, the Economic Relations Division, the Planning Division and the Ministry of Public Administration.

Neville Pollard, GAISB Regional Director for ASEAN, led the session live online under the title "Responsible AI in Public Administration: Global Standards, Governance and Institutional Readiness."

Why Responsible AI Is Now a Public-Sector Priority

Governments are adopting AI faster than they are writing the rules for it. Tools that draft documents, sort applications or answer citizens' questions can save time, but they also shape decisions that affect people's lives. A public institution has to be able to explain those decisions, check them and stand behind them.

Thailand is a fitting place for that conversation. The country has built dedicated public agencies for digital government, the digital economy and electronic transactions, and AIT has trained public-sector leaders from across Asia for more than six decades.

Three Pillars for AI-Ready Government

The session was built around three pillars:

  • Global standards: shared, published standards for how AI is used, tested and checked, so each ministry is not writing its own rules from scratch.
  • Governance: clear lines of accountability, so a named person or body owns every AI-supported decision and can answer for it.
  • Institutional readiness: the people and processes to run AI well, with skills that are verified rather than assumed.

“Every government is going to use AI. The real question is whether it can show its citizens that it is using AI well. That takes published standards, clear accountability and public servants whose skills are verified, not assumed. The future of government is AI-enabled. The responsibility is to get it right.”
